King's Counsel Debate: Should all experts be independently accredited?

  • Latest Journal

We look forward to hosting a timely debate between Amanda Savage KC and Helen Evans KC of 4 New Square at this year's Bond Solon Expert Witness Conference on Friday 3 November 2023.

All too frequently expert witnesses face judicial criticism or their evidence is disregarded, often because of failure to comply with their duties and responsibilities, and the law and procedure governing their work. Understandably this has caused alarm within the legal community. The topic of whether an expert witness should be independently accredited is therefore a timely one. In this session, listen to Amanda and Helen present the case for and against the accreditation of experts and bring the legal issues to life.

Amanda Savage KC and Helen Evans KC — head to head — Should all experts be independently accredited?

Amanda is someone who “doesn’t sit on the fence and is hard-hitting and practical” while Helen will "drill down to the core facts, paring away all that is irrelevant...presenting things in a clear and reasoned manner.” This debate promises to be lively, informative and thought provoking.
Attend this session to:
Learn the importance of being the right expert for the issues in dispute in any matter
Understand your level of accountability in the expert witness instruction process
Identify some of the common traps for the unwary

Both Amanda and Helen have a wealth of experience, making them the perfect choice to take part in this year's debate. Amanda has notable experience of claims against lawyers (including applications for wasted costs). She is regularly instructed by leading solicitors’ insurers and BMIF and has been rated in Chambers & Partners and Legal 500 for professional negligence and insurance and reinsurance.

Equally, Helen was Chambers and Partners Junior of the Year in the Professional Negligence category (2021) and “Lawyer of the Week” in the Times (2022). She became a KC in 2022 and acts for and against professionals — including  experts — who have been sued.
