Following a £100k investment to create a dedicated training facility, engineering, health and safety and environmental risk consultants, Finch Consulting has promoted Martin White to Head of Training.

Martin, who joined Finch in October 2019, has over 20 years of machine safety and consultancy experience. He is a Member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and joined Finch from TÜV SÜD, a leading international expert in providing testing, product certification, qualification, training and knowledge services. Martin is qualified to deliver training and development from City & Guilds and the Chartered Institute for Personnel and Development. He is therefore among a very small number of consulting engineers with a strong engineering CV as well qualifications and experience in training delivery.

Finch Consulting is based in Ashby de la Zouch and recently completed the refurbishment of its offices to provide agile workspaces and classroom based facilities so that it could provide risk and engineering based health and safety training.

Commenting on the promotion Martin said, “My overarching goal is to ensure our training programmes contribute to the goals of our clients and deliver measurable learning outcomes that help to minimise risk, improve operator safety and enhance production efficiencies.”

He added, “As well as ensuring we continuously improve the effectiveness of our theoretical training by obtaining regular feedback on the benefits and performance efficiencies that have been achieved, we also plan to introduce virtual reality. This means participants will be able to practice real life scenario’s without the risk of endangerment as they learn. As with any type of operating process, regardless of the quality of training other external factors mean that an accident can still happen. Our aim is to provide a level of depth and breadth to our courses such that operator knowledge is enhanced and more risk scenarios can be eliminated.”

Established in 1991, Finch has built its reputation by providing risk based consultancy, health and safety and environmental advice to many of the UK’s FTSE 250 companies. These include food manufacturers, theme park operators and companies involved in automotive, mining construction, chemical and marine activities. Its experts are also regularly appointed as expert witnesses and its well respected legal team includes an ex HSE enforcement lawyer.

The new training division will complement these service and will Initially be focused on machine safety and machine guarding training for health and safety specialists, manufacturing machine operators and production line managers.
