Dr David Wilson is a Consultant Musculoskeletal Radiologist with over 40 years' experience as a consultant and more than four decades of experience in diagnostic and interventional musculoskeletal radiology. His practice encompasses orthopaedics, rheumatology, trauma, sports injuries, spinal disorders and medicolegal radiology.

He was Consultant Radiologist at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre and Oxford University Hospitals from 1984 to 2012 and subsequently founded St Luke's Radiology Oxford Ltd, where he continues to practise.

His principal expertise is in the imaging of bone, joint and spinal disorders using radiography, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and ultrasound. He has particular interests in vertebral fractures, osteoporosis, spinal disease and the radiological diagnosis of musculoskeletal tumours and infection.

Dr Wilson was an early pioneer of musculoskeletal ultrasound in the United Kingdom and has undertaken original research into ultrasound assessment of joints, tendons and soft tissues. He has extensive experience of image-guided intervention including vertebroplasty, kyphoplasty, spinal injection techniques and other minimally invasive spinal procedures.

He is currently Musculoskeletal Editor of Acta Radiologica, Clinical Lecturer at the University of Aberdeen, Tutor on the MBBS programme at Imperial College London, Ad Personam Member of Congregation of the University of Oxford and is completing an MD by Research at Imperial College London on vertebral insufficiency fractures and osteoporosis imaging.

Dr Wilson is a past President of the British Institute of Radiology, past President of the British Society of Skeletal Radiology, former Treasurer of the European Society of Skeletal Radiology and former Deputy Editor of Clinical Radiology. He has contributed to national guidance including NICE guidance on vertebroplasty, kyphoplasty, low back pain and artificial intelligence for vertebral fracture detection.

He has published more than 140 peer-reviewed papers and book chapters, co-edited major musculoskeletal radiology textbooks and is a regular reviewer for leading international radiology journals.
