Dr Wallman is an expert in the identification and biology of insects, particularly those of forensic importance, and is the only tenured academic in Australia with a doctorate in forensic entomology. He has advised on many criminal cases involving insects, with an emphasis on the estimation of time since death, for police services in New South Wales, Queensland and South Australia, and has acted as an expert witness for both the Crown and the defence. He has also worked for the private sector in forensic entomological cases involving animal neglect and food contamination.
