Dr Hopcroft has over 30 years experience as an orthopaedic surgeon. He was appointed Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Manning River District Hospital in 1981 and have retained that position for the last 22 years. His major practice has been in orthopaedic trauma surgery but have also maintained an interest in general surgery and medico legal assessments. He is an accredited assessor for WorkCover and Motor Accidents Authority in spine, upper and lower limbs (October 2002). Dr Hopcroft is also Lecturer-Tutor in Orthopaedics and General Surgery at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Newcastle and is a Justice of the Peace.
