Mr Calvin Bell, MEd, PgCVH, PgDipCYW, Psychological Therapist and Risk Assessment Expert .

I have been an independent expert risk assessor and consultant in the domestic violence and child abuse field for over twenty years. I am also a psychological therapist and I have extensive clinical experience of working with men (both individually and in groups) and women with histories of violent and abusive behaviour within the context of the family; this has included domestic homicide offenders on life licence, sex offenders, both in community and prison settings, and parents who have inflicted non-accidental injuries to their children.

I have extensive experience of carrying out adult risk assessments concerning domestic abuse and child maltreatment (especially inflicted injury, such as abusive head trauma through shaking or blunt force, including cases in which culpability is denied). I have been instructed by the family courts and local authorities throughout the South West and in many other regions of England and Wales, including the London Boroughs. I have acted as an expert witness in over 500 family law cases and I regularly gave evidence in the Magistrates’, County and High Courts before the introduction of the new Family Court. I typically carry out twenty five or so risk assessments per year in the context of private and public law proceedings, as well as Public Law Outline cases.
