I have worked as an NHS Consultant since 1993. I am a Reader in Metabolic Medicine in the Department of Diabetes at St Bartholomew’s & The London School of Medicine. The post involves work at The Royal London, St Bartholomew’s Hospital and Homerton University Hospital. I am the Clinical Lead in Diabetes at Barts and The London. My research interests focus on the regulation of body weight, consequences of obesity and on vascular disease in subjects with diabetes, and/or hyperlipidemia. I am the Research Coordinator of the East London Obesity Service. Committee member Lipidology Section, Royal Society of Medicine.
My previous experience in metabolism included substantive periods at King’s College Hospital, at Mayo Clinic, USA, at Oxford University and at UCL Medical School.
My clinical interests include obesity, lipidology and diabetes mellitus as well as general (internal) medicine. I run the Morbid Obesity Service at Barts and am the physician to the bariatric service at Homerton University Hospital. I am an Examiner for MRCP PACES and Tutor for the Royal College of Physicians. Amongst standard reference works, I have written chapters for a leading textbook on Obesity and the Diabetes chapters for a leading Clinical Biochemistry textbook. I have over 100 citations.
