Dr Darzy has worked as a Consultant Physician in General Internal Medicine with subspecialty expertise in Diabetes and Endocrinology since August 2006, and has over three decades of NHS experience, including consultant-level practice from 2006 to 2025. His clinical focus is on complex diabetes and endocrine disorders, including endocrine complications of cancer treatment and endocrine malignancy.
He has undertaken medico-legal work in general internal medicine, diabetes and endocrinology since 2010 and now produces in excess of 250 reports per year. Typical annual workload includes approximately 70 clinical negligence reports, around 70 personal injury reports (particularly cases involving endocrine disorders or diabetes/endocrine disease complicated by injury), and about 100 life expectancy and work tribunal reports. His current Claimant/Defendant/Joint ratio is 45/45/10.
Dr Darzy’s wide clinical and research background, and extensive experience within the NHS, provide particular insight into medico-legal issues arising from failures of complex care pathways and/or individual healthcare providers. He has a recognised special interest in life expectancy assessment in complex medical scenarios, and authored Chapter 19 (“Life Expectancy”) in the 4th Edition of the APIL Guide to Catastrophic Injury Claims (April 2026).
Dr Darzy completed his primary medical qualification (MBChB) at the College of Medicine, University of Baghdad, in 1990, later obtaining MRCP (UK) and CCST in General Internal Medicine, Diabetes & Endocrinology in 2006, and an MD from the University of Manchester in 2009. His higher specialist training included Clinical Lecturer and Specialist Registrar posts at Bart’s and The London School of Medicine and Queen Mary University of London, and a three-year Clinical Research Fellowship in Endocrinology at The Christie Hospital NHS Trust focusing on neuroendocrine consequences of cranial irradiation in cancer survivors.
Dr Darzy maintains regular CPD in medico-legal practice and has completed the following courses: Medico-Legal Expert Training Course, London – January 2011; Clinical Negligence Course, London – November 2011; Advanced Medico-Legal Training Day, London – June 2015; Clinical Negligence Course, London – September 2021. He is listed in the medico-legal section of SpecialistInfo and on Expert Witness, and is a member of several expert panels and medical reporting agencies.
