I am a Consultant in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Northern Forensic Mental Health Service for Young People, in Newcastle. This has a medium secure Mental Health Unit for adolescents, and an associated national out-patient service. The In-patient service has been nationally commissioned since April 2002 My expertise is in the assessment and treatment of mentally ill young offenders (12-18 years old), who may require an in-patient secure bed (I have admission rights to the medium secure service) or individuals in the community, as well as assessments for criminal justice (e.g. fitness to plea, criminal mental health act detentions). I carry out Criminal Medico-legal work, for adolescent cases. I am clinical lead for the out-patient service. I am prepared to travel nationally, though timescales for reports to be produced may get extended due to travel. I tend to have a 6 week turn around time from time of instruction to report completion.
