Dr David Smith is a Consultant Neurologist, a position he has held since 1994. He has excellent general neurology knowledge with specialist interest in epilepsy.

He was involved with the Mersey Regional Epilepsy Clinic from its inception in 1990. He coordinated the epilepsy surgery programme from 1989-2003 and, instigated the ‘fast track’ epilepsy clinic in 1999.

Dr Smith continues to be involved in all aspects of the diagnosis and management of patients with suspected and established epilepsy.

Dr Smith also developed satellite epilepsy clinics at 2 hospitals in North Wales and, since November 2019, most of his general neurology and specialist epilepsy clinical work has been based in North Wales. He also does a monthly clinic at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital in Shropshire.

Fee information
Dr Smiths' fee structure is competitive.
Payments are expected within 3 months of report completion unless different terms have been agreed at time of instruction.

Availability
Dr Smith has 2-3 Medico-Legal clinics per month in Liverpool, Chester.

Experience
Dr Smith has been preparing medico-legal reports since 1994, and is very experienced in report writing and court procedures He has experience in personal injury (PI), complex personal injury (CPI), clinical negligence, employment, family and criminal cases. Dr Smith increasingly prepares reports for the defendant, including large firms, and a small proportion of reports are Joint instructions.

His experience in Family cases, includes fitness to parent, where a condition usually epilepsy, impacts on their ability to care for children. He has prepared reports for local authorities and on behalf of the parent but always in the best interests of the children.

In clinical negligence cases, Dr Smith has been instructed by solicitors acting for Claimants and solicitors acting for Defendants i.e. NHS Hospital Trusts or GPs

In the last year Dr Smith has gained experience in cases involving the Equality act (2010) and professional negligence i.e. claim against solicitor.

Training

Graduated from Aberdeen University in 1983 achieved in 1987 and undertook neurology training in Wakefield, Aberdeen and Liverpool.
