Matt has directed over 500 environmental impact assessment (EIA) projects under the UK Town and Country Planning and Electricity Act regimes. He provides advice on EIA and development/planning/permitting strategy to achieve development consent whilst ensuring compliance with EIA regulations and best practice. He assists a range of clients in EIA process and practice, has developed and delivered training courses on EIA process, practice and compliance with the regulations, and has written and spoken widely on EIA and its application in the UK. Matt has prepared expert evidence and rebuttals to planning inquires in England and appeared as an expert witness at inquiries in Scotland on matters concerning project need, site and route selection, EIA process and management, noise impact assessment and ecological impact assessment. Examples of projects include residential led and retail led mixed use development on brownfield/former industrial land, supermarkets on brownfield site, alternative alignment to a dual carriageway, and a new waste landfill site.
