Mr Veitch has an extensive medico-legal practice since 2005, undertaking a wide variety of cases involving general surgery, upper GI surgery, endocrine surgery, renal failure surgery and renal transplantation.

The majority of these have arisen through instructions regarding claims for personal injury against hospital trusts or individual practitioners. On fewer occasions the defending team has instructed him. He is fully familiar with the preparation and submission of reports on breach of duty and causation as well as condition and prognosis as well as the legal interpretation of “duty of care” and how that has evolved through the concept of the “Bolam test”, the “Bolitho case” and more recently the “Montgomery case”.

Mr Veitch is also aware of the Court rules in relation to expert’s reports contained in Part 35 of the Civil Procedure Rules. He has appeared at the Royal Courts of Justice in the Strand as an expert witness for both Defendants as well as Claimants in general surgery cases. He currently undertakes approximately 30-40 cases per year. He has also presented evidence to the General Medical Council Fitness to Practice Committee in transplant related cases.
