Mr Jonathan Spilsbury is a Consultant Orthopaedic Spinal Surgeon, based in Birmingham. He has an excellent knowledge of spinal surgery and spinal pathology.

Mr Spilsbury runs an adult low back pain clinic once per week, treating low back pain, sciatica and adult degenerative scoliosis. He also runs a paediatric clinic, for patients with spinal deformity, and runs a weekly spinal deformity clinic with two colleagues.

Mr Spilsbury has operating experience in spinal deformity- mainly paediatric and 30% adult degenerative cases. He has experience providing on-call advice and emergency surgery for all aspects of spinal pathology (except for intra-dural pathology.) His low back pain work includes decompression, fusion surgery, occasional disc replacements. Mr Spilsbury has a specialist interest in coccydynia.

Mr Spilsbury has prepared Orthopaedic/trauma medico-legal reports since 1992, with specialist spinal reporting since 1996. With 90% of his reports covering specialist spinal, 10% covering General Orthopaedic/Trauma reports, with 10% Paediatric. His case mix is 60% claimant, 20% joint and 20% defendant. Waiting time approx. 5 - 9 months depending in which clinic your client is seen at. Last minute cancellation appointments are often available for urgent cases in Birmingham, and Manchester. Home visits by special arrangement/fee, only when client disabled, 30% non-attendance fee unless prior agreement. Reports usually available within 2 -3 weeks of consultation, if all notes available.

Mr Spilsbury has undertaken spinal negligence reporting since 2000, with approx 15 cases per year. Covering cauda equina, missed infection, paralysis, both for claimant and NHS Litigation Authority.
