Dr Huw Edwards worked as a Consultant Psychiatrist for almost 30 years, he was responsible for developing and providing the psychiatric service for a large rural area of West Wales (Ceredigion and Carmarthen).
Since retiring from full time work with the NHS in 1996 and part-time since 1998. Dr Edwards has been actively engaged in medico-legal work. He has written approximately 50 medico-legal reports a year over the last 15 years. In recent years most of the work has been civil. With reports for the claimant in about 75% of cases, this does not include the cases in which he was jointly instructed.
Formerly a member of the Mental Health Act Commission (Visiting Commissioner), Dr Edwards was a Second Opinion Appointed Doctor for the Commission for 25 years.
Dr Edwards is the author of three books in Welsh on psychiatric topics and approximately 100 papers and articles. A Detailed list of publications can be provided if required.
Fully registered and licensed with the General Medical Council, Member of the Medical Defence Union
Former member of various medical committees including the executive of the Welsh Division of the College of Psychiatrists and the Advisory Committee on Mental Health for the Welsh Office. Past chairman of the Welsh Psychiatric Society and of Y Gymdeithas Feddygol (Welsh Medical Society.)
