Dr Ian M Frayling is a Consultant in Genetic Pathology, based at Cardiff & Vale University. He is a rare disease Consultant, and provides a specialist clinicopathological service on a local, regional, national and international basis, related to the laboratory investigation of genetics patients. This includes pre-testing advice, within laboratory and especially post-testing interpretation of genetic tests, including calculation of specific risks to individuals and relatives. His particular clinical specialty is in the field of hereditary bowel cancer, including Lynch Syndrome and the polyposes. Also related cancers, which include endometrial (womb), ovarian, gastric (stomach), small bowel, and kidney/ureter/bladder, amongst others. He is also experienced in; DNA repair syndromes, the interpretation of mutations in genes, genetic laboratory reports, cancer clusters, whether due to environmental or genetic causes, and cancer and malignancies involving possible environmental exposure to cancer causing (carcinogenic) agents, such as chemicals or radiation. Dr Frayling is Medical Advisor to Lynch Syndrome, and also Honorary Senior Clinical Research Fellow, at Cardiff University.
