Dr Bekoe has been working in various psychiatric settings since 1993. He has been a Consultant Psychiatrist in General Adult Psychiatry since November 2003.
He has extensive skills and experience in all aspects of General Adult Psychiatry (Adult Mental Health) as well as Substance Misuse (Addiction) Psychiatry and Forensic (Offender) Psychiatry. These include Mood Disorders (e.g, Bipolar Affective Disorders, Depression, Mania); Psychosis including Schizophrenia; Personality Disorder; Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD); Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD); Munchausen’s syndrome/Factitious disorders and Trauma/Stress related mental disorders; Drugs & Alcohol related conditions; and Psychiatric Risk Assessment and Management (relating to violence and suicide/self-harm, fire-setting, etc). Dr Bekoe is adept at all aspects of Mental Health Act and other medico-legal framework including assessment, report-writing and attendance at Mental Health Review Tribunals (MHRTs); experienced in managing patients who are subject to the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) proceedings including MHA Section 37/41.
Dr Bekoe has been undertaking independent medico-legal work since 2008. He has written numerous psychiatric reports for the purposes of the Criminal, Civil and Coroner’s Courts, Mental Health Review Tribunals (MHRTs), Family/Parental Assessments, DVLA Fitness to Drive, GMC Fitness to Practice and Employment issues. He has given expert evidence under cross-examination at numerous MHRTs and the Courts.

I regularly undertake CPD activities to maintain and improve my professional skills and expertise; I have been on Good Professional Standing with the Royal College of Psychiatrists for CPD since 2004. I have relevant knowledge of the Laws and Practice Directions in relation to criminal and civil litigation, family proceedings, immigration proceedings and other legal framework; and I am experienced in writing ‘court-compliant’ reports. I have attended the following medico-legal training: Annual Bond Solon Expert Witness Conference (last attended in November 2018); Corporate Investigation Officers training (2016); Excellence in Written Evidence and Courtroom Skills (Bond Solon Training, November 2016); Criminal Law, Procedure & Best Practice (Bond Solon Training, May 2017); Cross-examination day (Bond Solon Training, July 2017); Civil Law & procedure (Bond Solon Training, October 2017). I am an accredited expert witness, having obtained both the Cardiff University/ Bond Solon Civil Expert Certificate and the Cardiff University/ Bond Solon Criminal Expert Certificate.
