Mr John Bradley Williamson is a Consultant in Spinal Surgery based in Manchester.
He was appointed Senior Lecturer in Orthopaedic Surgery in the University of Manchester, in March 1991. In February 1996 he left his University post to become an NHS consultant at Hope Hospital (now Salford Royal) and the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital. At that time he was one of two full time spinal surgeons in the North West of England.
His experience covers the full range of spinal disorders, from paediatric and adult deformity work, through tumour and fracture to adult degenerative disease. As Divisional Chair he managed over 30 surgeons performing spinal surgery, 12 of whom did nothing else. The Department received over 10,000 elective spinal referrals annually. He has been accepting instructions for the preparation of reports since his appointment as a Consultant in 1991. Initially his practice was general, reflecting his clinical practice. Since 1995 he has only prepared reports pertaining to spinal problems. His practice has evolved, and most of the instructions now relate to relatively high value, complex claims.
Mr Williamson prepares about 100 personal injury reports a year, with a smaller number of medical negligence reports per annum. The practice is divided evenly between claimant and defence instructions.
Mr Williamson has been an invited speaker at medicolegal meetings, including those organised by Manchester Law Society and APIL. He is a member of the Royal College of Surgeons’ Independent Review panel, and has been frequently instructed by the General Medical Council. He has undertaken specific expert witness training, and regular medicolegal CPD. He is a Cardiff University/Bond Solon accredited expert, and a member of the Expert Witness Institute.
