Dr Liza Stanton is a Consultant Psychiatrist based in Nottingham.
She has an excellent knowledge of psychiatry, with special interest in the assessment of victims of torture and human trafficking, sexual assault, sequelae of solitary confinement and long-term imprisonment and human rights cases. She is also able to give research based opinion on detection of deception.
Dr Stanton can also assess adult mental disorders including PTSD, depression, old age psychiatrist, anxiety disorders and dementias.
Dr Stanton is a trained EMDR Therapist.
Dr Stanton undertakes expert witness cases on behalf of the claimant. She provides expert reports for people with potential mental disorder. Her expert witness experience has included alleged victims of sexual violence, adults presenting after child abuse and domestic abuse. She has also assessed people with alleged consequences of taser, restraint, false prosecution and false imprisonment, human trafficking, modern slavery, depression, post traumatic stress disorder, co-morbid mental disorders, and substance disorders.
With a special interest and experience in assessing the psychiatric consequences of solitary confinement/segregation, effects of prolonged segregation in prison.
Experience assessing alleged victims of torture has included psychological and physical torture, failed execution, assessing people from many cultures with alleged perpetrators being people in the local community and/or the state. Also experienced in assessing alleged victims with whom it is extremely difficult to communicate due to the severity of their mental state and the need for an interpreter. I also provide EMDR whilst utilising interpreter services. Experienced in the preparation of reports for Home Office Tribunals for Medical Justice.
Dr Stanton can travel throughout the UK and holds a Cardiff University Bond Solon Expert Witness Certificate (Civil), is on the National Register of University Certificated Expert Witnesses. She is committed to continuing professional development, undergoing GMC accredited annual appraisal. She has also trained with Medical Justice Charity in assessment of alleged victims of torture January-March 2017.
With the advent of COVID 19. Dr Stanton offers pro bono sessions online for frontline staff via the Welldoing online platform which is the organisation through which she offers EMDR treatment. Also volunteering with the Frontline 19 organisation and providing therapy sessions online for frontline staff referred via this organisation
