I am Sophie Russell (nee Windsor), a Consultant Midwife, working within a busy London Hospital. I retain the 50% clinical aspect of my role to maintain my clinical abilities and credibility. I have had various senior roles within maternity that has given me an in-depth understanding of maternity services and patient safety incidents. In my NHS role I am experienced at investigating serious incidents with root cause analysis.
I am in the pool of experts for the London Strategic Network for maternal deaths in London. This role has given me a very unique ability to review the most complex cases, in a sensitive and thorough manner.
I also have a specialist interest in multiple pregnancies. I am currently an expert panel member on the NICE update guideline for the care of multiple pregnancies (2019) and the MBRRACE perinatal review of multiple pregnancies.
I have presented on both local and national courses and have regularly lectured on undergraduate courses at University. I also have articles published in the British Journal of Midwifery and the British Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. I am also a Newborn Life Support (NLS) Instructor and previously an Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics Instructor.
I have a Masters in Medical Law and Ethics and have completed the Bond Solon Excellence in Report Writing and Civil Rules and Procedure Training.
