Anna graduated from UMIST in 1993. She gained an MSc in Investigative Ophthalmology and a PhD in the use of digital imaging in the diagnosis and monitoring of glaucoma. She acquired her clinical experience from both private practice and the Hospital Eye Service. She is an Examiner and an Assessor (Stage 1 and Stage 2) for the College of Optometrists. She has lectured on many continuing education and pre-reg’ revision courses in the UK and abroad.
Anna continues to work as an optometrist both on the high street and in the Hospital Eye Service and is a registered independent prescriber. She is a Performance Assessor for the General Optical Council and is an expert witness in medico-legal cases. She has written over 275 medico-legal reports on the subject of optometric duty of care. She has been instructed both by lawyers for the claimant and the defendant (ratio approximately 50:50). She has also written reports for loss adjusters, her regulatory body (the General Optical Council) and insurers. She was selected to be on the General Optical Council’s panel of expert witnesses and has given evidence many times in Fitness to Practice hearings.
Anna has wide experience of many different aspects of optometric duty of care.
Her reports have included cases of:
paediatric prescribing
macular degeneration
glaucoma
retinal detachment
contact lens-related conditions such as acanthamoeba keratitis
visual pathway lesions
procedural issues.
Anna is able to offer a very rapid turn-around of cases and is usually able to provide a report within one week.
