Dr Damian J Kelly is a Consultant Cardiologist at the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton (UHDB).

Dr Kelly was appointed Consultant Cardiologist at Royal Derby Hospital in 2011.
Clinical Lead for Cardiology UHDB 2015-2018
British Cardiovascular Society Guidelines and Practice committee 2020-

He specializes in Interventional Cardiology (coronary angioplasty and stenting or Percutaneous Coronary Intervention, PCI) and all aspects of general cardiology including heart attack and angina.

Dr Kelly provides expert reports across the range of adult cardiology. He writes around 25 medico-legal reports for civil medicolegal cases per year, with a split of; 50% claimant, 40% defendant and 10% as joint expert. Sub-specialist reports can be commissioned across cardiovascular medicine.

Reports can be prepared on:
Breach of Duty
Causation
Condition and prognosis
Screening reports
Fitness for trial
Case conference
Attendance at court

Feedback has been excellent and he receives regular instruction from a number of solicitors. He understands the importance of availability and prompt communication and is happy to assist by providing initial free-of-charge discussion about cases by email or telephone. He is able to provide completed reports within 6 weeks of instruction.

With colleagues, Dr Kelly founded a small cardiovascular medicolegal chambers www.bolamexperts.co.uk. Referrals are received direct from partner firms of solicitors.  Unlike an agency we offer a truly personal service: solicitors deal directly with a small group of medical experts and with no additional fees.

Dr Kelly believes access to legal compensation is a right for all patients and a key driver for service improvement and patient safety.  Solicitors and claimants also require prompt information regarding cases which are unlikely to progress.

Dr Kelly regularly attends appropriate courses to maintain professional expertise in medico-legal matters. He is widely published; authoring papers, abstracts and book chapters.
