A practicing NHS and private dermatologist for over 18 years, Dr Thomas Millard is a general dermatologist, with a case mix of skin cancer, inflammatory skin disease and children’s dermatology. He is not a career paediatric dermatologist and does not have expertise in cosmetic dermatology.
Dr Millard has over 7 years’ experience in writing expert witness medical reports, mainly for the civil and family courts, but some cases for criminal and coroner’s court. In addition to numerous expert witness medical reports for individual law firms, he has written many short form reports for the NHS Litigation Authority. Over the last 3 years Dr Millard has been instructed by the claimant (27%), defendant (29%), coroner (2%), NHS (4%) and as a single joint expert in 38% of cases. He has given evidence under cross examination both in person and virtually, especially in family, criminal and coroner’s cases which tend to go to court.
Dr Millard has undertaken specific training to support his role as an expert and holds the Cardiff University Law School Expert Witness Certificate (Civil) in 2018 which includes training in report writing, civil procedure and giving expert evidence in court.
He is based in Gloucester and accepts instructions throughout the UK.
