Mr Samir Mehta is a Consultant in Upper Gastrointestinal and Minimally invasive Surgery at St James's University Hospital, Leeds since 2010.

He completed his medical training at Oxford University in 1998, and since becoming a consultant in 2010 has become renowned for providing an exceptional service and has some of the best results in the country which can be demonstrated on the data produced by AUGIS since 2016.

His predominant areas of expertise within the NHS is Oesophageal Cancer surgery, however he is also a leading general Upper GI and Bariatric surgeon, providing weight loss surgery with excellent outcomes.

As an Upper GI and Bariatric Surgical Specialist Mr Mehta is often asked to provide his opinion on issues as a highly-regarded medico-legal expert. Mr Mehta provides specialist medico-legal opinions in Upper GI and particularly bariatric surgery cases. Over the last 7 years, he has been an expert witness in various medico-legal cases as well as provided opinions as an expert witness to Coroners Court with a claimant / defendant ratio of 80:20 and have completed over 150 reports.

Mr Mehta has expertise in surgery for weight loss (bariatric surgery), cancer of the oesophagus, cancer of the stomach, acid reflux, gallstones, hernia, achalasia, gastroparesis and abdominal emergencies, such as appendicitis and trauma.

He has received training in writing medical expert reports by Bond Solon Advocates within the last 5 years and aims to provide a rapid turnaround of reports (average time between receipt of notes and report 6-8 weeks).

As a medico-legal expert, Mr Mehta is fully aware of the Civil procedure rules and the contents of the Wolff report and the principles that would be applied to the case Fully qualified surgical specialist with extensive academic, clinical and surgical experience,full secretarial support service, transparent fee structure, ability to undertake medical assessment of clients where appropriate.

He is widely published in peer reviewed journals and was awarded a higher medical degree through Oxford University in 2008. Mr Mehta authors in all aspects of oesophago-gastric surgical oncology and is a reviewer for the Annals of the Royal College of Surgeon.
