Dr Claxton is a Consultant in Anaesthetics at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust at Bradford since 2003, his Pain Consultancy commencing in 2013.

He is currently Lead for Pain Services at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

Dr Claxton has expertise in all aspects of adult chronic pain management including presentations such as chronic pain syndromes, complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), spinal pain and musculoskeletal pain presentations. With a wealth of experience within anaesthesia and is available for opinions on medical negligence within Adult Anaesthesia, Chronic Pain Management, and Personal Injury.

Dr Claxton has special interests in the Biopyschosocial management of chronic pain presentations. He also has experience in management and implantation of Spinal Cord Stimulators for Post Spinal Surgery Persistent Pain Syndromes as outlined within NICE Guidance.

He has considerable experience in the clinical management of a wide range of chronic pain conditions including;
managing knee pain,
back pain,
spinal pain,
sciatica,
whiplash,
complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS),
pain after trauma and surgery,
post-traumatic/surgical pain,
post amputation pain,
complex regional pain syndrome,
nerve injury,
pelvic pain,
musculoskeletal pain,
analgesic drugs,
opioids,
nerve blocks,
spinals,
epidurals,
spinal neuromodulation,
psychological management of pain.

Dr Claxton has undertaken medicolegal reports since 2019. He has completed the ‘Pain Experts’ course and is familiar with, and understand the importance of, the Civil Procedure Rules Part 35.

He provides about 80 reports per year of which 85% are personal injury and 15% clinical negligence. Undertakes instructions on behalf of both Claimants and Defendants in a ratio of 70% Claimant, 30% Defendant. He holds the Cardiff University Bond Solon (CUBS) Expert Witness Civil Certificate (2021).
