Mr Matthew Cauldwell is a Consultant Obstetrician and Maternal Medicine Specialist at St George's University Hospital, specialising in high risk obstetrics and the management of medical problems in pregnancy. He is the lead clinician for the obstetric high dependency unit and the lead clinician for a busy diabetes in pregnancy service.
Mr Cauldwell undertook obstetric training in London which included 3 years at St Guy's and St Thomas and completed an MD in maternal cardiac disease in pregnancy whilst working at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and the Royal Brompton Hospital. Throughout his career, he has maintained a strong research background, publishing widely in the field of obstetrics and maternal medicine. A list of publications can be found on the CV attached.
In addition to clinical commitments, Mr Cauldwell is involved in governance and has completed risk reviews for maternal death cases in London. He sits on the London Maternal Morbidity Panel and is the lead for the SWL Maternal Medicine MDT.
In 2020, he began working for the Independent Maternity Review in Shrewsbury and Telford and has since reviewed over 250 cases. He has been a chapter lead author for the review and since joined the Independent Maternity Review Team which is examining maternity care at Nottingham University Hospitals.
Mr Cauldwell can be instructed for medico-legal reports for risk management, breach and causation within general obstetrics and high risk obstetrics including diabetes and cardiac disease.
He has completed his Cardiff University Bond Solon Expert Witness training in February 2022.
