Mr Michael R. Gooseman is a Consultant Thoracic Surgeon, based at Hull University Teaching Hospitals. He was appointed as a substantive consultant surgeon in 2022 following specialist training as a national trainee in cardiothoracic surgery and a short period as a locum consultant from October 21 in the same trust.

Mr Gooseman has a busy and active thoracic surgical practice. He is also a consultant for the trusts Major Trauma team with regular clinical commitment to this service. Injuries to the chest and thoracic trauma surgery are of significant clinical interest and he is an active member of the Chest Wall Injury Society.

As an expert witness, Mr Gooseman accepts cases involving personal injury report writing including aspects of current condition and prognosis often in relation to thoracic / chest trauma. He also accepts cases involving clinical negligence report writing, including aspects of breach of duty and causation. He fully understands his duty as an expert to the Court under Pt35 of the Civil Procedure Rules and has undertaken specific expert witness training completing Cardiff University Bond Solon Civil Expert Certificate in 2023. 

Other areas of interest include general adult thoracic surgery (excluding transplantation), surgical safety standards and serious incidents.
