Details

Mr Marco Scarci is a Consultant Thoracic Surgeon qualifying from University G. D’Annunzio in Italy in 2001. Subsequently he has pursued postgraduate training in UK and Canada.

Mr Scarci is currently at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, before he was a consultant at Papworth Hospital in Cambridge and University College London Hospital. He has been a consultant for over 10 years.

Mr Scarci runs a very busy clinical practice mainly focusing on minimally invasive surgery and chest wall conditions, in particular chest wall conditions after failed pectus deformity repair and trauma. He is familiar with the latest evidence on these conditions and has developed a strong research interest in this field.

Specialist interests include:
Keyhole thoracic surgery using a single incision
Non-surgical treatment of chest wall deformities
Surgery for locally advanced cancers
Enhanced recovery and rehabilitation after thoracic surgery
Treatment of malignant mesothelioma

Mr Scarci undertakes Medicolegal work for a wide range of chest conditions, including chest wall deformities, fractured ribs and cancers. He has received training at Bond Solon, (in Excellence in Report Writing) and can provide reports in a short turnaround time. He is normally able to see clients within 24 hours if needed and prepare a report within a week (subject to other commitments/annual leave). The time taken for the report is approximately 4–6 hours work but he can supply an approximate fee once full instruction and medical records for review are received. His hourly rate is £275 per hour. His work split is claimant defendant 80/20%.

As well as running his clinical practices, both NHS and private, Mr Scarci has set up and is running a successful international thoracic oncology symposium. He undertakes research, is widely published (and continues to publish) and lectures in the field of single port surgery and chest wall conditions, having published several chapters on these topics alongside 4 published books.

Training

Involved in the leadership of the European Society of Thoracic Surgeons and associate editors of journal of thoracic diseases and journal of thoracic and cardiovascular surgery and editor in chief of frontiers in surgery. He is a regular reviewer for some of the most prestigious journals in cardiothoracic surgery. He has published over 200 articles in peer-reviewed journals.
