Malcolm Tallis is a Clinical Team Mentor with the West  Midlands  Ambulance Service, where he undertakes a full range of paramedic duties, including emergency blue‑light response, patient assessment, and care for conditions ranging from life‑threatening injuries to minor illnesses. In his mentoring capacity, Malcolm supports both qualified colleagues and student paramedics through their training and degree programmes, promoting clinical excellence and professional development across the team.

With over  20  years of experience in the emergency services, Malcolm began his career as a police officer before qualifying as a paramedic. He later served as a medic with the British Army  Reserves, applying his frontline expertise in demanding environments.

Malcolm’s key areas of expertise include:

  •  Paramedic  practice  and  clinical  response
  •  Patient  safety  and  clinical  investigation
  •  Expert  witness  instruction  and  court  report  preparation
  •  Coroners’ cases  and  healthcare  law  regulation

He holds a  Master’s  degree  in  Medical  Law  and  Ethics, which incorporates specialist study on expert witness practice and healthcare regulation.

As part of the investigations team at the West  Midlands  Ambulance  Service (2022–2023), Malcolm contributed to serious incident reviews and the preparation of reports for senior management and the Integrated Care Board. These responsibilities included supporting root‑cause analysis processes and multidisciplinary communication.

Malcolm has contributed to several key publications in paramedic education, including sections of Foundation Material for Immediate Medical Care (Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh), Ambulance Care Essentials (2nd ed.), and Law and Ethics for Paramedics: An Essential Guide (2nd ed.).
