Mr. James Carr

James Carr is a Architectural Design expert witness, he is owner and manager of Mapridge Design Studios Ltd. James is a registered architect and a member of both the Architects Registration Board and the Royal Institute of British Architects. 

James started work at Haringey Council’s Architects Department moving to Solon South East Housing Association. He joined Barton Willmore Ltd in 1987 becoming an equity Partner. As Senior Design partner he ran their London Architectural Design team working on a wide range of projects from inception to completion. These projects included one off houses to multi flatted urban regeneration projects, masterplans and office and retail business parks. He formed Mapridge Design Studios Ltd in 2017.

James has core skill experience in designing high quality, viable and sustainable developments that could always deliver added value. His extensive involvement in the design and construction of a wide range of building types, from inception to completion adds to his expertise. He has considerable knowledge and experience of the planning system and has helped negotiate and steer many complex projects to success. His particular interest and skills are in the creation of residential and mixed-use developments ensuring these projects deliver integrated, viable and exceptional places to live and work. 

James has acted as Expert Architectural Design Witness at Planning Inquiries, Compulsory Purchase Inquiries, Negligence and Copyright Examinations. He has acted for major housebuilders, developers and for private individuals to help unlock complex and difficult planning situations so that development can take place.

James has expertise in the following areas:
