Nick Gillham has more than 30 years experience as a consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic surgeon.

He has prepared medical reports for more than 25 years and undertaken medical negligence reports for 10 years.

Trained as a Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon in a number of centres, including, Cambridge, Charring Cross in London, Stoke on Trent and Oswestry.

He was appointed in 1990 as the first research fellow of The Royal College of Surgeons looking at the management of ankle fractures. In 1994 he was appointed as a Trauma and Orthopaedic surgeon in Banbury with an interest in Trauma and upper limb surgery. He developed an extensive practise in upper limb arthroplasty, resulting in multiple presentations at a number of international meetings.

Still in full time NHS practise, predominately managing Trauma. The unit in Banbury is recognised as one of the best trauma units in England for the management of fracture neck of femur.

He was on the steering group for the Basic Surgical Skillscourse of the RCS for almost 20 years and assisted in the development of this course. This is a compulsory course for all surgeons in training.

Faculty member for AO/Synthes fracture fixation courses and has been an examiner for MRCS examinations.

 

Experience of giving evidence

Prepared medical reports for more than 25 years. Approximately 500 reports a year. The majority of the cases are for the claimant with few (<5%) for the defendant. Regular telephone and face to face conferences with Solicitors and Barristers. He has attended Court and given evidence on a regular basis and has prepared medical negligence reports for the last decade.

  • Personal injury, including road traffic accidents, slips and trips and accidents at work.
  • Complex fractures and multiple injury cases, specifically complex wrist and ankle injuries.
  • Fragility fractures in the elderly.
  • Sporting related injuries.
  • Medical negligence.

 

Specialist assessments offered

  • Specific assessment of complex upper limb and ankle injuries.
  • Close links with radiologists at St Luke’s Hospital in Oxford. This is very helpful in arranging appropriate imaging for complex injuries.

 

Availability

Current consultation venues for face to face examinations in Northampton (NN1 4QD) and Newport Pagnell (Milton Keynes MK16 8HX) and Banbury (OX16 9AL). Remote consultations are available on a number of days, including early evening. Home and Prison visits undertaken. Uses digital voice recognition dictation software and is therefore able to provide urgent/short notice reports. Always happy to discuss complex cases with instructing solicitors, before and after consultations. Can do desktop screening reports where appropriate with discussion with instructing team for clarity and advice. Has access to German and French translation from family members who are fluent speakers with medical secretarial experience.
