I have been a qualified social worker since 2002, an Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) since 2005 and a Best Interest Assessor (BIA) since 2016. I have also been an operational manager for the Local Authority and the NHS in a Community Mental Health Team for over 10 years. In 2015, I started my own company, LKP Associates LTD, operating as an Independent Social Worker, trainer and consultant. 

I have extensive experience in adult mental health, autism, learning disabilities, and forensic social work and have a thorough understanding of the Mental Health Act, the Mental Capacity and the Care Act. 

I regularly undertake assessments and reports for solicitors, private organisations and individuals who require independent reports for the attention of Mental Health Review Tribunals, the Court of Protection, Parole Boards and other organisations. I am regarded as an expert witness. 

I have been a Social Supervisor for conditionally discharged patients and have extensive experience of working with mentally disordered offenders with a thorough understanding of Part III of the Mental Health Act (1983) and support social workers and nurses in developing expertise in this specialised area.

I have extensive experience of working with adults who have a diagnosis of autism. I have undertaken assessments and reports focusing on the complex social, environmental, communication and sensory needs of this client group.

I undertake consultancy work for local authorities, third sector and private organisations, and individuals. Independent work enables me to focus on specific areas of legislation and policy in order to compile comprehensive reports, assessments and recommendations for positive outcomes. Areas of focus have included: cost saving measures, resolution of technically difficult learning disability cases, mediation, and providing guidance, advice, and expert opinion. 

I provide training to statutory and non-statutory organisations. including third sector and private corporations.Topics include: Alcohol and Substance Misuse, Working with Personality Disorders, Anxiety Management, Hoarding and Self-neglect, Risk-Assessing, Introduction to Bi-polar Affective Disorder and Schizophrenia, Introduction to Learning Disability, Autism and Mental Health, Mentally Disordered Offenders and the Part III of the Mental Health Actand the Role of the Social Supervisor.
