Miss Sheweidin Aziz is a full-time consultant spinal surgeon at University Hospitals of Leicester, with specialist interests in metastatic spinal disease, cauda equina syndrome, and degenerative spine pathologies. She has presented nationally and internationally, received prizes for her research, and contributed to peer-reviewed publications. Miss Aziz has an extensive research portfolio with a great interest in metastatic spine disease and cauda equina syndrome. Miss Aziz is currently the audit lead for the Trauma and Orthopaedics department and remains actively involved in service development and clinical governance. Miss Aziz regularly contributes to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, interview panels, and revision courses. Her dedication to teaching was recognised when she was awarded the Outstanding Clinical Teacher Award by the University of Leicester Medical School.
Miss Aziz was privileged to be one of the first-ever Spinal Training Interface (TIG) Fellows in the UK; a position earned by accelerating her training and completing her training programme in five years instead of six. This allowed her to dedicate her final year to a focused fellowship. During her TIG fellowship, she gained broad exposure to paediatric deformity, spinal trauma, primary spinal tumours, and degenerative spinal pathologies. Miss Aziz subsequently obtained a prestigious spinal fellowship at the Leeds Centre for Neurosciences, consolidating her subspecialist expertise before leaving to commence her consultant career at the University Hospitals of Leicester.
