Mike is Senior Partner of Barbers Rural Consultancy.  He has extensive knowledge and over 35 years experience in a wide range of rural issues and specialises in agricultural law and valuations, together with the sale of farms, land and country properties. He is an experienced Expert Witness. His colleagues Dan Bowden, Jonty Cliffe and Harriet Jones all also act as Expert Witnesses.

Mike is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), a Fellow of the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers (CAAV), a Fellow of the National Association of Estate Agents (NAEA), an RICS Registered Valuer and a panel valuer for the Agricultural Mortgage Corporation in addition to other national lending institutions. Mike is also a member of the Agricultural Law Association and is currently Senior Vice President of the CAAV.

• Sale, Valuation, Purchase and Letting of Property, Livestock and Machinery.
• Compulsory Purchase and Compensation, Town and Country Planning. Successful advocate and expert witness in various Compulsory Purchase Inquiries and planning appeals. Experience in various major infrastructure schemes including pipelines, roads and railways (HS2 and other Network Rail schemes).
• Fully trained and experienced Expert Witness.
• Fully trained Mediator (Society of Mediators).
• Land and Property Law, Landlord and tenant disputes including rent reviews.
• Panel Valuer for various High Street Banks and the Agricultural Mortgage Corporation.
• Appeared as expert valuation witness in NatWest v Jones 2002 (Tenancies at an under value) and Michael v Miller 2004 (Mortgages, mortgagees’ duties on sale) both of which went to the Court of Appeal.
• Advocate for successful Objector to The Wrexham County Borough Council Wrexham Industrial Estate Northern Access Road 2009.
• Appeared as advocate and/or expert witness at various Town & Country Planning Inquiries, Lands Tribunal, Agricultural Land Tribunal, Arbitrations, County and High Court hearings.
